Family Therapy
What is Family Therapy?
Family therapy at Scottsdale Providence Recovery Center is grounded in the belief that a family operates as a system of interconnected parts. When one part is disruptedโbe it through mental illness or addictionโevery other part feels the impact. This therapy aims to address the shifts in family dynamics that occur under the strain of behavioral health disorders, working to mend the fabric of the family unit through guided, therapeutic interventions.
Navigating Family Dynamics
When mental illness or addiction touches a family, the effects resonate with each member, creating pain and confusion that doesnโt simply vanish when the affected individual begins treatment. At Scottsdale Providence Recovery Center, we understand the complex dynamics at play and offer family therapy as a vital component of holistic healing. Our approach complements individual therapy, ensuring that healing and recovery encompass not just the individual but their entire family system.
Benefits of Family Therapy
Our family therapy sessions are designed to heal wounds and rebuild trust within the family. By addressing issues such as built-up lies, unequal distribution of responsibilities, and unhealthy behavioral patterns, we facilitate a transformative process. The ultimate goal is to foster a supportive environment where all members can thrive, especially as they adjust to the changes brought about by a family memberโs recovery journey.
How Does Family Therapy Work?
At Scottsdale Providence Recovery Center, family therapy begins with an understanding that each family is unique. Therapists do not prescribe who should participate; instead, they ask, โWho is most important to you?โ This inclusive approach ensures that whether family members reside together or apart, all those considered family by the individual in treatment are welcomed into the therapy process.
Utilizing the Internal Family Systems (IFS) modality, among others, our therapists tailor the therapeutic experience to meet the specific needs of each family.
Who Can Benefit from Family Therapy?
Any family navigating the challenges of mental illness or addiction can benefit from our therapy services. Recognizing that โfamilyโ means any group of people with close and enduring emotional ties, our therapy is adaptable to various family structures. Whether itโs parents, siblings, partners, or close friends, if they play a significant role in the individualโs life, they are part of the therapeutic process.
What to Expect in a Family Therapy Session
Family therapy sessions at our center are shaped by the principle that healing is a collective journey. Sessions may begin once the primary therapist determines the individual is stable enough for family engagement. Throughout treatment, we ensure families remain informed and involved, even if direct family therapy has yet to commence. Additionally, we offer a family support group via Zoom on the third Wednesday of every month, providing ongoing support and connection.
Finding a Family Therapist
Our team of therapists, including specialists in the IFS modality, is dedicated to supporting families through their healing journey. The appropriateness of family therapy and the specific modalities used are determined collaboratively, with the primary focus always on what will best serve the familyโs needs.
