What Is an Outpatient Program?

An Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) provides structure and support for individuals recovering from mental health and substance abuse while continuing to live at home. It offers flexible therapy and accountability for college students, working professionals, and parents who need consistent support but not 24-hour supervision. At Scottsdale Providence Recovery Center, our IOP helps individuals in Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Tempe, and Phoenix heal through evidence-based counseling, group therapy, and psychiatric care in a setting built on compassion.

Our Approach to Intensive Outpatient Treatment

Our intensive outpatient services in Scottsdale offer a balance of structure and flexibility through personalized therapy and ongoing support. We offer morning, afternoon, evening IOP, and weekend options to fit different schedules and needs. Each outpatient program is tailored to the individual, including IOP for depression, anxiety, trauma, and substance abuse, helping people heal while staying connected to their lives.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

Engage in comprehensive daytime treatment from 9 in the morning to 4 in the afternoon, with an hour lunch break, offering a structured but flexible approach to care.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

Attend focused IOP therapy sessions for 3 hours a day, available in morning slots (9-12) or afternoon (1-4), providing a concentrated dose of support and therapy.

Standard Outpatient (OP)

The client participates in individual and/or group counseling for 4 to 6 hours a week. This program enables people to receive the care they need while they handle their day-to-day responsibilities.

Who Our Programs Support

Recovery means something different for everyone. Some are college students trying to stay grounded while managing school work. Others are young adults stepping into independence, or working professionals juggling careers and personal healing. We also serve individuals seeking affirming care in Scottsdale’s LGBTQ community, creating space for recovery that feels safe, inclusive, and supported. Our IOP services offer flexible scheduling, with care guided by licensed therapists and nurse practitioners who understand how to meet people where they are.

What Counseling Will I Receive in Outpatient Care?

The core curriculum of Scottsdale Providence Recovery Center is interactive journaling. Interactive Journaling is an innovative experiential modality that puts the client at the center of their change process. This evidence-based methodology is described by the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration as a “goal-directed, client-centered model that aims to reduce substance abuse and substance-related behaviors … through a process of written self-reflection.

Our Dedicated Outpatient Therapy Specialists

Our outpatient care at Scottsdale Providence Recovery Center is anchored by a strong team of therapy specialists, committed to offering personalized and nuanced support tailored to fit the lives of our clients. With seven therapists, each with their own specialty, we provide a broad spectrum of therapeutic approaches, ensuring that our outpatient clients benefit from a comprehensive and integrated recovery experience. This multidisciplinary team approach allows us to address the unique challenges and goals of each individual on their path to wellness.

Our Staff

Detox Services

Detox provides a safe and supportive start to recovery. Our medical team carefully manages withdrawal to ensure comfort and stability. After detox, many continue care through IOP for alcohol, stimulants, or other substances, creating a structured path toward long-term healing.

					I have been a client at SPRC since the end of May 2025. This place honestly saved my life. I was in the PHP house for my first 2 months, and while there were hard days, I could not be more grateful that I stayed. SPRC taught me not just how to sit with discomfort, but how to thrive in it. Before coming here, I was hopeless. I did 3 weeks at a residential treatment center in Tucson before I was booted due to insurance. Alex and the other staff at SPRC were incredibly gracious with my financial situation; they look at the clients as real people rather than numbers. Each therapist here made me feel cared for and understood in both groups and individual sessions. Working with Denise has expanded my view of past traumas and how those affect my decisions and actions today, and she has facilitated so much healing of my inner parts. Dr. Sarah and her OT team helped me significantly with understanding my underlying neurodivergence. If you are debating coming here or sending your loved one here, I can attest to it being an extremely compassionate, fun-loving, and respectful community. 					5 years ago I stepped into SPRC and if I’m honest I had no confidence in myself and didn’t think I would make it. I did A LOT of self sabotage while there. I had already been kicked out of two other rehabs in the past and Dan could have very easily kicked me out for multiple stunts I pulled there… but he didn’t. They didn’t give up on me and I kept pushing forward. On Friday I just celebrated 5 years sober and free. I’d been looking all over the internet to try and find the best treatment center for my mental state. I was very hesitant on going anywhere but I knew I needed help. I called and talked to Talia and she was wicked nice and helpful. She was so helpful that I thought there was some kind of “catch”. I didn’t know why someone wanted to help me so much, I wasn’t used to that. I almost didn’t come in because I thought it was too good to be true. Well I’m happy I did because this place changed my life for the better. I’ve learned so much from the staff and other clients there as well.
